We are Home in the Bay

Christian & Sophy

We are the writers of HomeintheBay from our gorgeous home in Torbay, Devon on the stunning English Riviera.

Christian is a Marine Engineer and Sophy works for local yacht broker’s One Marine which is part of Sunseeker Torquay Ltd. We spend our life on the water, and want to share our passion for everyday boating with other everyday boaters! Whilst it’s me (Sophy) that does most of the writing it’s Christians’ knowledge of all things marine that propels most of our posts!

We write about boating basics, with stories and features on our stunning stretch of coastline from Exmouth through Torbay on to Dartmouth and down to Salcombe.

Boating is too involved to be simply a hobby, so for us, its a lifestyle choice. We hope that by sharing some of the comical cock-ups, unbelievable coastline, occasionally ugly challenges mixed with some of the best boating days South Devon has to offer – we aim to give readers an honest insight into our boat ownership, where adventures can take you and to inspire others to get out on the water too.

Our Boats:

Rebel

Rebel of Torquay back in the water for good!

Rebel is now a completely restored vintage late 1980’s Fletcher Bravo Arrowflyte and measures 14ft. She began life as a rose-tinted and slightly naïve first boat purchase on my part and – quite embarrassingly – was swiftly decommissioned and out of the water very soon after meeting Christian! A kind offer of a carb clean, soon discovered a faulty cylinder and a cracked engine block and so the true ownership experience began…

A little bit of love and a shiny new engine later, and with more than a little help from some boaty pals means that rebel is now polished, reupholstered and most importantly back on the water. We will share her full restoration journey with you on HomeintheBay.

Our Boats:

In Bliss

In Bliss mooring in Torquay

Christians’ family’s Ribeye 650s has seen soo many adventures over the years! We use her for longer distance journeys and as a tow boat for water-skiing and wakeboarding too. With ample seating for passengers, if the family come out with us, she is perfect for a day in the bay.

The popularity of RIBs means they are quick, sturdy and can cope with a bigger sea than little Rebel would! Christian spent a portion of his career building RIBs so will be using his knowledge to share all about maintenance and what we do to look after both our boats throughout the seasons.
